Music lessons are more than an academic subject. While learning the art of piano playing, I believe students are also preparing for the rest of life! In addition to fostering excellence in piano performance, my aim as a piano instructor is to see my students grow as well-rounded, joyful individuals, learning skills and developing character that will transfer to so many other areas of life.
I focus on teaching Classical repertoire, technique, sight reading, and music theory, opening the doors to any kind of music students want to explore. In addition, I love to include sacred music, improvisation, ensemble playing, and a variety of musical genres to give students a rich musical foundation.
I encourage my students to share their music whenever they have the chance! We put on two formal studio recitals a year and are actively involved in events put on by the Gig Harbor chapter. Our annual studio Piano Party celebration is a highlight where students come together to play for (and with) each other, enjoy treats, and play games. We love making music and look for opportunities to enjoy it together!
Learning to play an instrument requires effort; It’s a joy watching my students learn to set goals, take on challenges and celebrate accomplishments! The discipline of learning piano builds life skills like problem solving, persistence, attention to details, and self-confidence. Students learn how to handle mistakes and to grow from them. They learn the rewards of steady, faithful effort. By working through obstacles, facing setbacks, and experiencing progress, they come out stronger and better equipped for life’s many challenges.
I believe God gave us music for our joy and to reflect his glory! We are stronger, healthier, and happier as we learn to appreciate and cultivate this gift. It’s my privilege to help students of all ages on their personal journey of musical discovery and growth.
